Tatu Green Horizons

Protecting Uganda's Environment through Action.

"The climate crisis has already been solved. We already have all the facts and solutions. All we have to do is to wake up and change." - Greta Thunberg

Our Goal

To restore and protect Uganda’s natural heritage by planting 100,000 indigenous trees annually, introducing sustainable waste management in tourism host communities, and engaging 100 communities in green initiatives every year

Tree Planting, Waste Management & Eco-Education in Uganda

Uganda, often called the Pearl of Africa, is home to lush forests, unique wildlife, and spectacular landscapes that draw visitors from around the globe. Yet, this natural beauty is under threat.

At Tatu Green Horizons, we believe every community in Uganda deserves a clean, healthy environment, every child deserves the knowledge to protect nature, and every family deserves the opportunity to thrive in harmony with the land. Through tree planting in Uganda, eco-education programs, waste management initiatives, and community clean-up drives, we empower tourism host communities to combat climate change, restore ecosystems, and shape a sustainable future for Uganda.

Reforestation, Waste Management and Eco Education in Uganda

Why Uganda's Environment needs action

  • Deforestation Crisis: Uganda loses about 2% of its forest cover every year (National Forestry Authority, 2024), mainly due to charcoal burning, agricultural expansion, and urban growth.
  • Waste Management Challenges: Many tourism host communities lack proper waste disposal systems, leading to littered rivers, wetlands, and wildlife habitats.
  • Climate Change Impacts: Unpredictable rainfall, droughts, and extreme weather patterns threaten both biodiversity and livelihoods.
  • Tourism at Risk: As natural beauty declines, so does Uganda’s potential for sustainable tourism a vital income source for local communities.

Here is how we are combating climate change in Uganda

  • Plant and nurture 100,000 indigenous trees every year.
  • Engage 100 communities in annual clean-up and green action campaigns.
  • Install garbage bins and waste management systems in 20 tourism sites.
  • Deliver eco-education workshops to over 15,000 learners and community members annually.

At Tatu Odysseys Initiative, we believe every community deserves a clean environment, climate resilience, and the tools to shape a sustainable future

Key Focus Areas

  1. Large-Scale Reforestation in Uganda: We plant only indigenous tree species that restore biodiversity, improve soil health, and help combat climate change. Each seedling is carefully tracked to ensure a high survival rate, creating lasting green coverage in degraded landscapes.
  2. Sustainable Waste Management in Tourism Communities: We are installing garbage bins, introducing waste segregation practices, and partnering with local councils for regular collection, reducing pollution in some of Uganda’s most beautiful destinations.
  3. Eco-Education Programs Across Uganda: Through schools, youth clubs, and community workshops, we teach practical ways to conserve resources, reduce waste, and adapt to climate change. These sessions empower participants to become guardians of Uganda’s natural heritage.
  4. Community Clean-Up Drives: Each month, 1 clean-up campaign in each community bring together residents, tourists, and volunteers to remove litter, beautify public spaces, and promote pride in local environments.
  5. Engaging Tourists in Conservation: Every eco-tourism trip with Tatu Odysseys includes hands-on activities such as tree planting and clean-ups ensuring that every traveler leaves a positive environmental footprint.
