Tatu Maisha Project
A livelihood project in Uganda Empowering Women, Feeding Families and Transforming Communities
"No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted." - Aesop
Our Goal
To improve the quality of life for 2,000 families per year in Uganda’s tourism host communities, through sustainable livelihoods, household dignity support, and essential health services.
Thriving Families Build Stronger Tourism Communities in Uganda
Uganda’s breathtaking landscapes and rich cultures attract travelers from all over the world. But behind the postcard views, many tourism host communities face daily struggles with poverty, food insecurity, and limited access to health care.
The Tatu Maisha Project is changing this narrative by empowering women and girls, feeding families, improving health, and creating sustainable livelihoods in 10 key tourism areas across Uganda.
Every contribution whether time, resources, or funding has a direct impact on a family’s life. With your support, we can feed more families, empower more women, and strengthen the heart of Uganda’s tourism communities
70% focus on girls and women empowerment
Livelihoods status in Uganda
- Over 40% of people in rural Uganda live below the poverty line. (UBOS)
- Women in tourism-adjacent communities often earn less than USD 2 per day, limiting their ability to feed and care for their families.
- Many households lack basic essentials such as bedding, cooking utensils, and hygiene supplies.
- Access to healthcare especially maternal and child health services is scarce, leading to preventable illnesses and high maternal mortality rates.
These challenges not only harm the people who welcome visitors into their regions but also threaten the long-term sustainability of Uganda’s tourism economy.
Through Tatu Maisha we aim to.
- Food Security in Uganda: Ensure reliable, nutritious food support for 2,000 vulnerable households annually.
- Household Dignity: Provide essential home items to improve living conditions and restore dignity.
- Economic Empowerment: Equip women with skills, tools, and small business support to achieve financial independence.
- Health & Wellness: Deliver accessible healthcare and health education, focusing on maternal, child, and community well-being.
At Tatu, we believe every family deserves the means to thrive, every woman deserves the power to shape her future, and every community deserves the resources to build lasting livelihoods, achieve food security, and enjoy good health
